Shukura Chapman
Singer-songwriter / Musician

Shukura Chapman is a singer-songwriter & multi-instrumentalist who the AU Review describes as "..intoxicating and effortless".

Jamaican roots, growing up in New Zealand and her eclectic taste in music influence Shukura’s sound. Her soulful vocals slice through cascading electric guitar, bumping baselines and dilla-esque laid back grooves. Moving through cities, instruments and genres Shukura landed in a blend of neo-soul and RnB (and Melbourne) - think Frank Ocean meets Hiatus Kaiyote with a little Noname. In 2017 Shukura was announced as a finalist in the Queensland Music Awards, received airplay on Triple J and moved to Melbourne, finishing off the year playing Outside Tribe Festival and Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival. 2018 saw Shukura opening for Caravana Sun and Reuben Stone, among others, and playing Bendigo Craft Beer & Cider festival. Focusing on writing and producing in 2019 Shukura is looking forward to releasing new music that encapsulates her new sonic direction.

Shukura's single 'Release Me', released 24 February 2017, is available everywhere. Written, produced, drums and vocals by Shukura Chapman.

The music is superb, resonating with the surprising jubilation heard in Corinne Bailey Rae’s early efforts.
